Light Spring Color Palette
Light Spring is the lightest of the warm seasons: delicate, sun warmed coloring that comes alive in clear pastels with a golden edge. Your palette is peach, butter yellow, mint, warm aqua and coral pink, your neutrals are ivory and light camel rather than black and grey, and your metal is gold.

Statement colors
Wearable near the face. These are the colors that carry an outfit.
Accents
Smaller doses: a scarf, a bag, a print.
Neutrals
The workhorses. Trousers, coats, knitwear and everything the statement colors sit against.
Best metal
Gold. Held flat against your bare cheek in daylight it blends into your skin, where the other metal sits on top of it. How to check this yourself.
Where Light Spring sits
Every season is a position on three axes. Light Spring is defined by its light dimension, with warm deciding which side it falls on.
Depth
Light is the dimension in charge. Everything about your coloring sits near the top of the scale, and more importantly it sits there together: light hair, fair to medium skin, light eyes, and very little distance between any of them. This is why a heavy color does not just look wrong on you, it looks like it is wearing you.
Undertone
Warm is the supporting dimension, and it is a gentle warmth rather than a golden blaze. Think of the difference between cream and butter. Gold jewellery settles into your skin where silver sits on top of it, and ivory reads as clean on you where optic white reads as glare.
Clarity
Clarity sits in the middle and tips slightly bright. Your colors are pale but they are not dusty. A pale color with grey mixed into it goes flat on you; the same color mixed with white and a little yellow lights you up.
How to tell if you are a Light Spring
- Your natural hair, before any dye, is light: golden blonde, strawberry, or a light golden brown.
- In a bare faced photo taken in daylight, your hair, skin and eyes look like variations on one light tone rather than three separate values.
- Black next to your face is the single most obvious tell. It does not look dramatic on you, it looks like a hole.
- Gold jewellery disappears into your skin. Silver sits on the surface and looks slightly cold.
- Your eyes are light and clear, often with a warm sunburst pattern radiating out from the pupil.
Your natural coloring
- Skin
- Fair to medium, neutral to neutral-warm; gold flatters more than silver.
- Hair
- Light to medium golden or strawberry blonde, light golden brown.
- Eyes
- Light blue, green, hazel or light brown; bright with a warm 'sunburst' pattern.
How to wear the palette
Dress light on light. The instinct to anchor a pale outfit with a dark trouser or a black boot is the one thing that consistently breaks a Light Spring look, because the anchor becomes the loudest thing in the room. Ivory with light camel, peach with warm beige, mint with warm light grey: keep the whole outfit inside the top half of the value scale and let the colors do the work.
When you need contrast, get it from hue rather than depth. Coral against warm aqua, periwinkle against butter yellow. Two light colors from opposite sides of the palette give you interest without dropping a shadow across your face.
Soft navy is your evening dark. It is the one deep color in your palette and it is there precisely because you sometimes need a dark, so use it where other people would reach for black: the coat, the suit, the dress you wear to things.
Gold, rose gold and warm brass, in light and delicate rather than heavy pieces. A chunky gold cuff can outweigh you; a fine chain will not.
Colors to avoid, and why
True black, stark white, deep cool jewel tones, and heavily saturated warm shades (e.g. burnt orange), they overpower the delicate, light coloring.
- Black and charcoal. They are three or four steps deeper than any part of your natural coloring, so your face reads as the pale thing above the dark thing rather than the point of the outfit.
- Stark optic white. It is cool where you are warm and it makes your skin look slightly yellow by comparison. Ivory and warm off white do the same job without the side effect.
- Heavily saturated warm shades like burnt orange or rust. They are the right temperature and the wrong weight; they overpower rather than harmonise.
- Cool jewel tones such as emerald, sapphire and true burgundy. These belong to the Winters and they will always look like a costume on you.
Makeup for Light Spring
The same three dimensions apply to makeup, and lip color is where a mismatch shows fastest because it sits next to your teeth and your skin at once.

Hair colors that harmonise
Hair is the largest block of color you wear and the only one you cannot take off at the end of the day. These sit in the same temperature and depth range as your natural coloring.
If you are not sure
Light Spring sits between two neighbours on the flow wheel, and those two are the only seasons you can realistically be confused with. Here is how to tell them apart.
Light Spring or True Spring?
Both of you are warm and both look wrong in black. The difference is saturation. True Spring colors are vivid: tomato red, turquoise, golden yellow at full strength. Put a Light Spring in true tomato red and the color wins. Put a True Spring in peach and the color vanishes. If clear bright shades feel exciting rather than overwhelming, you are further along the Spring line than you think.
Light Spring or Light Summer?
This is the comparison most Light Springs actually need. Both seasons are light, both suit pastels, and both look drained in black. The split is temperature. Hold ivory and then optic white to your bare face in daylight: Light Spring looks healthier in ivory, Light Summer looks fresher in white. Gold against silver tells the same story. If both metals genuinely look fine, look at your pastels instead: peach and coral point to Spring, lavender and powder blue point to Summer.
Light Spring celebrities
Estimates rather than verdicts. These typings come from published photographs under unknown lighting, usually with professional makeup and dyed hair, which are the three biggest sources of error in color analysis. They are useful for seeing what the season looks like on a face you already know.
- Elle Fanning Pale warm skin and very light golden hair; she is at her best in the palette's peach and mint end.
- Nicole Kidman Strawberry blonde in her natural coloring, with the warm, light and low contrast balance that defines the season.
- Saoirse Ronan Light coloring with a warm cast in the hair and a clear, light eye.
- Taylor Swift Light golden blonde, fair warm skin and light blue eyes, with almost no depth contrast between them.

Take the 60 second testQuestions people ask
- What colors should a Light Spring avoid?
- Black, charcoal, stark white, and any deep cool jewel tone. All four are much deeper or much cooler than your natural coloring, so they take over the outfit and leave your face looking washed out. Swap black for soft navy and stark white for ivory and the problem goes away.
- Can a Light Spring wear black at all?
- Not near the face, no. Away from the face it is fine: black shoes, a black bag, black trousers under a peach knit all work, because the color that sits under your chin is the one doing the damage. If you need a dark layer up top, soft navy or deep warm brown will always beat black on you.
- What hair color suits a Light Spring?
- Golden blonde, strawberry blonde, honey and light golden brown. The rule is stay light and stay warm. Ash tones drain you because they are cool, and going more than two shades darker than your natural color flips the whole balance of your face and starts to make your skin look tired.
- Is Light Spring the same as Light Summer?
- No. They share the light dimension, which is why they are so often confused, but Light Spring is warm and Light Summer is cool. Light Spring wears peach, coral and warm aqua; Light Summer wears rose, lavender and powder blue. The fastest test is ivory against pure white in daylight.
- What metal should a Light Spring wear?
- Gold, and light gold rather than heavy antique gold. Rose gold works too. Silver is not forbidden but it will always look slightly cold against your skin, and next to gold in the same photograph the difference is obvious.
