Where True Spring sits
Every season is a position on three axes. True Spring is defined by its warm dimension, with bright deciding which side it falls on.
Undertone
Warm is the dominant dimension here, and it is the whole story. Where the other Springs borrow a little from a neighbour, True Spring is warm first and everything else second. Your skin has a golden or peachy cast, your hair carries gold or red, and even your eyes tend to have a warm ring in them.
Depth
Depth sits in the light to medium range and is not the point. You can be a blonde True Spring or a golden brown haired one; what does not happen is a True Spring with genuinely deep, near black coloring, because that pulls into Autumn territory.
Clarity
Clarity runs high. Your colors are saturated and fresh, the way a color looks straight out of the tube rather than mixed on a palette. Muted, dusty and greyed versions of your own colors will always look slightly dirty on you.
How to tell if you are a True Spring
- Gold jewellery is not a preference, it is obvious. Silver looks grey against your skin in the same light.
- You freckle or tan with a golden cast rather than going pink.
- Your natural hair has visible warmth: gold, honey, copper or red, even if it is quite light.
- Bright warm colors that other people call loud, like coral or turquoise, look normal on you.
- Dusty and muted colors, the ones sold as sophisticated, make you look tired.

How to wear the palette
Lean into saturation. Your palette is one of the two or three most colorful in the whole system and half measures do not suit it. A coral shirt, a turquoise dress, a golden yellow coat: these are not statement pieces on you, they are your baseline.
Cream is your white and camel is your grey. Substituting them for optic white and cool grey is the single highest leverage change most True Springs make, because the base layer of the wardrobe is what everything else sits against.
Warm navy is your formal dark, and it is a genuinely different color from cool navy. Held side by side the difference is unmistakable; on its own, look for a navy with a green rather than a purple cast.
Mix warm colors together rather than pairing one bright with a neutral. Coral with turquoise, golden yellow with grass green. Your palette is built to be worn against itself.
Colors to avoid, and why
Icy blues, grey, dusty/muted tones, and true black & white, they clash with the natural warmth and dampen the brightness.
- Black and pure white. Both are cold and absolute where your coloring is warm and graded. Black in particular puts a hard grey shadow under your chin.
- Dusty, greyed and smoky shades: dusty rose, slate, taupe, mushroom. The grey in them fights the gold in you.
- Cool pinks and fuchsias. Warm pinks in the coral and salmon family are yours; anything with blue in it is not.
- Icy pastels. Their coolness reads as slightly clinical against warm skin.

Hair colors that harmonise
Hair is the largest block of color you wear and the only one you cannot take off at the end of the day. These sit in the same temperature and depth range as your natural coloring.

True Spring or Bright Spring?
Both are warm and both are clear. Bright Spring goes further on chroma and sits closer to Winter, so it carries higher contrast between hair, skin and eyes and can wear near neon shades that would tip a True Spring over. If your features pop sharply in a bare faced photo, look at Bright Spring. If they blend into a single warm glow, you are True Spring.
True Spring or Light Spring?
The dividing line is saturation, not warmth. Light Spring wears the pastel version of your palette: peach where you wear coral, butter where you wear golden yellow. If pastels look pretty on you but slightly insubstantial, and full strength color looks normal, you are True Spring.

Estimates rather than verdicts. These typings come from published photographs under unknown lighting, usually with professional makeup and dyed hair, which are the three biggest sources of error in color analysis. They are useful for seeing what the season looks like on a face you already know.

- Nothing. They are two names for the same season. Sci\ART derived systems say True Spring, several other systems say Warm Spring, and both mean the Spring whose dominant dimension is warmth.
- What colors look best on a True Spring?
- Clear warm colors at full saturation: coral, tomato red, amber, golden yellow, grass green, turquoise and warm bright pink. The two things they have in common are a yellow base and no grey.
- Should a True Spring wear gold or silver?
- Gold. True Spring is the most clearly warm of the twelve seasons and gold is not a close call here. If you love silver, wear it away from your face or look for a warm toned rose gold as a compromise.
