True Summer Color Palette

True Summer, also called Cool Summer, is the purely cool season without the sharpness of Winter: blue based coloring that looks best in soft, cool shades with a little grey in them. Your palette is dusty blue, raspberry, soft fuchsia, cool teal and plum, your neutrals are soft white and navy, and your metal is silver.

Where True Summer sits
Every season is a position on three axes. True Summer is defined by its cool dimension, with soft deciding which side it falls on.
Undertone
Cool is the dominant dimension. Everything in your coloring is blue based: the ash in your hair, the pink or rose in your skin, the cool cast in your eyes. Warmth is not something you can borrow a little of; a golden shade next to your face turns it sallow immediately.
Depth
Depth sits in the light to medium range. You are usually not as pale as a Light Summer and never as deep as a Winter. This middle position is why medium colors look right on you where they look either heavy or weak on your neighbours.
Clarity
Clarity is soft. Your colors have grey in them, and that grey is what makes them yours. The same raspberry at full saturation belongs to Winter; softened with grey it belongs to you.
How to tell if you are a True Summer
- Silver is clearly better than gold, and gold looks yellow rather than warm against your skin.
- Pure white looks clean on you and cream looks slightly dirty.
- Black is not draining exactly, but it is harsh, and navy always looks better in the same outfit.
- Your natural hair is ash toned: ash blonde, ash brown or a cool medium brown with no red in it.
- Dusty, softened colors look expensive on you rather than dull.

How to wear the palette
Navy is your black. It is the anchor the rest of the wardrobe hangs off, and switching your dark neutral from black to navy is the single change that makes the biggest visible difference for a True Summer.
Tone on tone works beautifully for you. Three shades of dusty blue, or rose with mauve with plum. Your palette is built from closely related cool shades, which means monochrome outfits look considered rather than flat.
Cool cocoa is your brown. Warm chocolate and camel are not; the moment a brown has gold in it, it stops working. Cool cocoa gives you the same wearability without the temperature clash.
Silver, white gold and pearl. Where you want warmth, get it from a rose toned pink in the clothing rather than from a metal.
Colors to avoid, and why
Warm and bright shades, plus very dark/harsh colors (black, true white, dark purple) that overpower the soft coloring.
- Orange in all its forms, including rust, terracotta, coral and peach. This is the clearest single avoid on your list.
- Golden yellow and mustard, which do to your skin what orange does, only slower.
- Black next to the face. Not because it is dark, but because it is absolute where your coloring is gradual.
- Very bright, clear colors such as true emerald or electric blue. They have no grey in them and they make your softness look like fading.

Hair is the largest block of color you wear and the only one you cannot take off at the end of the day. These sit in the same temperature and depth range as your natural coloring.

True Summer or Light Summer?
Both are cool and soft; the difference is depth. Light Summer stays in the pastel range and gets overwhelmed by medium colors. True Summer wears medium cool shades such as raspberry and dusty blue comfortably. If pastels look slightly insubstantial on you, you are True Summer.
True Summer or Soft Summer?
This is the harder split, because both are cool and both are soft. The question is which dimension leads. True Summer is cool first: your best colors are clearly blue based even when muted. Soft Summer is muted first and only neutrally cool, which is why Soft Summer can wear a greyed olive and you cannot.
True Summer celebrities
Estimates rather than verdicts. These typings come from published photographs under unknown lighting, usually with professional makeup and dyed hair, which are the three biggest sources of error in color analysis. They are useful for seeing what the season looks like on a face you already know.
